British Royal Marines on Visit
On 3rd October, the Commanding Officer of the Mountain Leader Company from the Navy Training Group Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (NAVY TRG CTCRM – SW ML), located in Lympstone, Devon, Major Ian McGill, paid a visit to the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (NATO MW COE).
The Mountain Warfare training and qualification architecture of the Royal Marines were outlined during his brief visit. The training approach consists of a completely integrated combat and technical skills’ training in several training modules. The long-lasting training to become a Mountain Leader also includes longer phases of duty service to gain experience in the field of Mountaineering and Leadership on terrain of various difficulties.
During the visit, the NATO MW COE’s Chief of Staff, Colonel Alberto Zamboni, focused specially on the purpose and special position of the Centre of Excellence within NATO, as well as within the Mountain Warfare community of interest.
Mutual understanding, and the link-up for future collaboration, was settled in order to support and complement each other, and to enhance the Mountain Warfare interoperability within NATO and the Partner nations.[envira-gallery id=”1496″]
