The NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (NATO MW COE), in cooperation with the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces (AWL – Centre of Mountain Training), is proud to host the 7th Mountain Warfare Congress, taking place from 26 to 29 October 2026 in the heart of the Polish Tatra Mountains.
Set in the unique alpine environment of Zakopane, this four-day international congress will serve as a premier forum to examine current and emerging challenges of military operations in mountainous terrain. The event will bring together military leaders, operational planners, subject-matter experts, researchers, and industry representatives to exchange insights, share lessons learned, and explore innovative solutions tailored to mountain warfare.
A central highlight of the Congress will be the presentation of a comprehensive study on the employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in mountain warfare, with a specific focus on newly developed and commonly agreed Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs). These findings are intended to directly inform the forthcoming update of ATP-3.2.1.3, reinforcing the Congress’s role as a bridge between operational experience, doctrine, and future capability development.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with leading defence and technology companies, academic institutions, and military organizations from multiple nations, fostering cooperation and dialogue across operational, doctrinal, and technological domains.
The 7th Mountain Warfare Congress offers a unique opportunity to connect with the international mountain warfare community, contribute to the evolution of doctrine and capabilities, and shape the future of operations in one of the most demanding environments on land.
Further details on the agenda, registration process, and administrative arrangements will be made available in due course.
