Tudorică PETRACHE
Major General (Ret.) Tudorică PETRACHE is a Romanian infantry and mountain warfare officer with extensive command, operational, multinational and academic experience developed across conventional forces, Special Operations Forces and multinational headquarters.
A graduate of the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Military Officers’ School of Sibiu, he began his career as an infantry officer and subsequently attended the Mountain Warfare Course in Predeal. During his military career, he held command and staff appointments ranging from platoon and company level to battalion, brigade and multinational formations.
His assignments included Reconnaissance Company Commander, Chief of Operations and Combat Training, Chief of Staff of a Special Operations Battalion, Commander of a Paratroopers Battalion, Chief of the Simulation Section within the General Staff, Chief of the Land Forces Evaluation Office and Chief of Staff of the Romanian Special Operations Component.
Iraq
Served in Iraq as Deputy Chief S3 within Multinational Division Central-South.
Afghanistan
Served at ISAF Headquarters as Chief of Division responsible for liaison and mentoring activities involving NATO Special Operations Forces and Afghan Special Operations Forces.
Romanian Special Operations
Appointed Chief of Staff of the Romanian Special Operations Component following extensive experience in operational planning, training and Special Operations Forces.
Mountain Forces
Commanded Romania’s 2nd Mountain Brigade “Sarmizegetusa”, providing direct senior-level experience in the command, training and operational preparation of mountain forces.
Romanian Land Forces
Appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Land Forces for Operations and Training, with responsibilities in the areas of operations and doctrine.
Multinational Command
Commanded the South-Eastern Europe Multinational Brigade in Larissa, Greece, leading multinational forces from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, North Macedonia and Türkiye.
Multinational Corps
Served as Deputy Commander of the South-Eastern Europe Multinational Corps in Bucharest, contributing to the operationalization of the corps structure and coordinating multinational staff activities.
Throughout his career, Major General PETRACHE combined operational command with extensive responsibilities in training, evaluation, simulation, doctrine and force development. His appointments included positions directly connected with combat training, Land Forces evaluation, General Staff simulation and operational planning.
His experience as Commander of the 2nd Mountain Brigade “Sarmizegetusa” and later as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Romanian Land Forces for Operations and Training provides a senior-level perspective on the relationship between operational requirements, force structure, training systems, doctrine and readiness.
Following his retirement from active military service, Major General PETRACHE continued his professional activity in military education at the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy of Sibiu.
From October 2022 to October 2024, he served as an Associate Lecturer, and since October 2024 he has served as a Lecturer in the Department of Military Sciences. His academic work includes teaching military operations and staff procedures, developing courses and instructional materials, conducting scientific research and publishing in specialized journals.
Drawing on his experience in mountain forces, Special Operations, multinational command and military education, Major General PETRACHE will address the evolving requirements of mountain warfare training and the challenges of preparing forces and leaders for contemporary and future operations.
