Future Decision Making in “Triple S” Environment

Future Decision Making in “Triple S” Environment

The presentation examines Mission Command and future decision-making against the background of the Urban Prism of Responsibility.

It approaches the operational environment as a prism comprising three interconnected levels of movement: supersurface, surface and subsurface — the “Triple-S” environment.

The presentation draws attention from the basic principles of subterranean operations to infrastructure typically found in mountainous terrain, including road and railway tunnels and pumped-storage power stations.

Mission Command Examining mission command in increasingly complex operational environments.
Future Decision-Making Understanding the implications of complex terrain for military decision-making.
Triple-S Environment Supersurface, surface and subsurface as interconnected dimensions of the operational environment.
Subterranean Operations Considering the principles of operations below the surface and their relevance to mountain warfare.
Mountain Infrastructure Road tunnels, railway tunnels and other infrastructure characteristic of mountainous terrain.
Critical Infrastructure Considering facilities such as pumped-storage power stations within the operational environment.
