Visit by the Slovenian Minister of Defence
On 14 April 2021, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia, H.E. Matej Tonin, paid a visit to the NATO MW COE.
The visit to the Pokljuka Training Centre was hosted by the MW COE Director, Colonel Borut Flajšman. Following an introductory brief on the MW COE, the Director presented the Centre’s main achievements, future plans and perspectives, emphasizing the Centre’s strong involvement in the NATO concept development and the NATO standardization process, as well as education and training. The development of NATO doctrinal and standardization documents will enable the Alliance to enhance their future performance in Mountain Warfare education and training, exercises and operations.
The second part of the visit was dedicated to the demonstration of winter mountain warfare skills, such as movement on snow and firing positions in snow. The Minister expressed his willingness to give some of these activities a try.
Welcoming the MW COE’s achievements, H.E. Matej Tonin reaffirmed Slovenia’s strong commitment, as the Framework Nation, to supporting the Centre’s future projects and development for the benefit of all participating nations and the Alliance.
