Mountaineering equipment & materials Workshop

Purpose:
Provide a comprehensive overview
- of civilian mountaineering equipment, their specific standards and an insight of the civil standardization process,
- the equipment and materials used by participating nations, and their underlying specific standards,
as the foundation for establishing a common minimum standard.
Aim:
The expected outcome of the workshop is to establish an agreement on a minimum standard and recommendations for mountaineering equipment/materials used in military training, exercises, and operations in the mountains.
Objectives:
- Set minimum standards for mountaineering equipment
- Set minimum standards for mountaineering material – technical clothes & shoes
- Presentation of “State of the Art” materials and equipment
- Pros & cons of different materials
- Recommendations, best practices, LL
Activities:
- Workshop and field training.
Participants:
SMEs from Mountain Warfare Schools, Mountain Units, and experts from Civilian Organizations.

As one of the main missions of the NATO MW COE is to suggest improvements and propose amendments to existing doctrines, procedures and standards for subsequent endorsement by the Strategic Commands and/or NATO HQ, the Doctrine & Standardization Branch serves as a tool which analyses existing publications, seeks for incoherence and, when appropriate, provides proposals according to NATO Standardization Process. Based on Lessons Learned, primarily received from operations and exercises, the branch will develop new products, based on expressed needs within the Alliance.
