Meteorological Support to Mountain Warfare Operations Conference

The NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (MW COE) is organizing a conference entitled “Meteorological Support to Mountain Warfare Operations”.

Climate and the weather have a far greater influence on operations in the mountains than in the lowlands. Against this background, the conference will serve as a platform for sharing and exchanging information on the meteorological aspects of mountain warfare. We believe that it will be an ideal opportunity for all participants to gain new experience and provide conclusions which could serve as guidance for future work. Assessing the environmental factors is essential for military decisions and for planning in the military decision-making process. Weather forecasts by the meteorological services are used as a basis for assessment.

The two-day conference will take place 1-2 March 2022 in Sestriere, Italy, during the Italian Armed Forces Winter Field Training Exercise “WHITE FOX”, which will last for two weeks. The conference will be conducted in person, but there will be an opportunity, specifically on 1 March 2022, to participate in the event via VTC. On 2 March 2022, a field demonstration will be conducted by the Italian Army.

POCs for the conference are LTC Željko Papazović (zeljko.papazovic@mwcoe.org) and MAJ Igor Brinar (igor.brinar@mwcoe.org).
