On Thursday, 12 September, the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (NATO MW COE) hosted the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Marjan Šarec.
Colonel Borut Flajšman, the NATO MW COE Director, and his staff, briefed the guest on the Centre’s main activities, showcasing the Branch`s work scope, projects focus, as well as future challenges and opportunities.
During the presentation, the NATO MW COE’s role and visibility as a “hub” in the area of Mountain Warfare expertise was highlighted. Colonel Flajšman stressed the importance of the Mountain Warfare Standards` development, doctrine-related development, capabilities and capacities development with options for improvement and cooperation within the Alliance.
Moreover, the efforts of the NATO MW COE were explained in terms of how the Centre differs from other MW-related Community of Interest institutions and is directed to the Alliance level with focus on both, combined as well as joint training in mountainous environment.
The purpose of the visit was to get a comprehensive picture about the activities of the NATO MW COE.
