Mountain Warfare Staff Officer Course

NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence conducted, between 7th and 18th of November 2022, the Mountain Warfare Staff Officer Course, teaching students from 6 different NATO countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia) the specifics of mountain terrain and weather, and training them to plan and conduct military operations in mountainous environment.

Students were taught by lecturers and trainers from 9 nations (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Slovenia and USA), joined the 4th Mountain Warfare Congress held in Slovenia by our centre and visited the Kobarid Museum and the Kolovrat Outdoor Museum to study the Isonzo Front of WW I.

Participants were faced with a tactical situation and trained in planning procedures and conducted two day reconnaissance in the mountains to understand the terrain and its influence on combat power.

Upon finishing our Mountain Warfare Staff Officer Course, the students are able to carry out staff duties in planning and conducting operations in difficult mountainous terrain.
