Romanian Minister Visits NATO MW COE: Shaping Future Mountain Warfare

On 28 March 2024, the Romanian Minister of National Defence H.E. Mr. Angel TÎLVĂR visited the NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (MW COE) in Slovenia, emphasizing Romania’s commitment to advancing mountain warfare capabilities within NATO.

The visit showcased the MW COE’s mission to enhance NATO’s proficiency in mountain warfare through research, training, and collaboration, with a focus on multi-domain operations (MDO) and integrating new technologies.

Romania’s upcoming role as a Sponsoring Nation highlights its deepened partnership in shaping future mountain warfare strategies. Romania’s active participation in MW COE events, including hosting the Force Protection in Mountain Warfare Seminar in 2023, underscores its dedication to collective defense.

Discussions centered on cooperation, future projects, and challenges, including Letters of Cooperation with other COEs and civil entities, the New Mountain Warfare Multi-Domain Concept, and accreditation of MW COE courses.
