USE OF DRONES IN THE MOUNTAINOUS ENVIRONMENT

The NATO Mountain Warfare Centre of Excellence (MWCOE) remains committed to staying informed about the latest advancements in the mountain sector. This commitment led to our participation in the drone exhibition held in Osttirol, where we were represented. Our presentation focused on two crucial areas: precise individual localization and efficient cargo transportation.

A prominent highlight was the “AI Rescue Assist System” developed by AIReas, which utilizes AI-based offline processing of thermal imagery captured from aerial platforms to enhance search and rescue operations for missing individuals. This technology garnered significant interest during the exhibition.

Furthermore, we had the privilege of witnessing a demonstration that showcased the practical application of cargo drones in mountainous terrain for the transportation of logistics goods.

The company “Drone Passion” (https://drone-passion.at/industrie-anwendungen/lastenfluege) gave us a practical demonstration of their system in the KALWANG area and was able to show us very well how logistics goods can be efficiently transported with a drone in a short time using minimal personnel.

They have perfected this cargo drone system for transporting logistics goods in mountainous areas. Based on their system, such cargo drone capabilities could also be easily implemented in the military sector.

These innovative systems, including the AI Rescue Assist System and Drone Passion’s cargo drones, will be thoroughly explored and discussed at the upcoming drone workshop scheduled from September 16th to 19th.
