ANNUAL AMBASSADORS’ RECEPTION at the NATO MW COE

On 16 June Ambassadors and representatives from the NATO MW COE Sponsoring Nations (SN) Croatia, Italy, Poland and Romania, and from the Contributing Partner (CP) Austria, visited the NATO MW COE.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Boris Grigić, the Ambassador of the Italian Republic, H.E. Carlo Campanile, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, H.E. Krzysztof Olendzki, the Ambassador of Romania, H.E. Anton Niculescu, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Austria, Mag. Kristof Grabmayer-Keri, were welcomed to the Centre’s premises by Colonel Borut Flajšman, the NATO MW COE Director.

Colonel Flajšman updated our honourable guests with the Centre’s projects of 2020 and the first half of 2021. He emphasized that the support provided by the SNs and the CP represents a rock solid basis for the future development of the Centre, as well as for the development of Mountain Warfare concepts, standards and training for the Alliance. At the end of his briefing, the Director proposed the idea of making the Ambassadors’ reception a traditional annual event, as a unique setting for the Centre to present its past achievements and future perspective to its Sponsoring Nations and foster our already well-established collaboration.

The presentation was followed by a dynamic display in the Završnica valley, where firstly our guests were able to see the Mountain Warfare Small Units Leader Course participants conducting training in climbing via ferrata, descending on a fixed rope, and classic mountain rescue including transport of an injured person by the UT 2000 stretcher on an installed rope line. The classic mountain rescue procedures were followed by the use of a helicopter, where a combined team from the SAF’s 15th Air Force Regiment and the SAF rescue group executed wall rescue with the use of an electric winch, which was demanding but very interesting to see.

The dynamic display was well received by the Ambassadors, as well as random passers-by.
